Who it suits: professionals and entrepreneurs with proven qualifications or a project

Entrepreneur / Profession libérale

A residence permit for starting your own business in France or working as an independent professional.

Who it suits: entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals

  • Works both for your own company and for independent practice
  • The viability of the project must be demonstrated
  • Sufficient funds must be evidenced

Work contract

The French work permit: the employer goes through a labour market test, the status is tied to the position and renewed along with the contract.

Who it suits: those hired by a French company

  • A French employer is required
  • A work permit is issued for a specific position
  • The status is tied to the employer and the role

Visitor (Visiteur)

A residence permit for those with a steady income from outside France who do not plan to work in the country.

Who it suits: people living on rental, pension or other income from abroad

  • Working in France on this status is not allowed
  • Proof of sufficient means is required
  • Medical insurance is mandatory

University studies

Studying in France gives a permit for the length of the programme, and graduates a year to look for work in their field.

Who it suits: students of French universities and schools
